Red table top mats
The ‘Red Tray’ policy was originally introduced by trusts to highlight patients who have feeding or nutritional needs that need to be easilily identifiable.
The purpose of this policy is to use Red Trays and Red Lid Systems (jugs) for all patients that are at risk of malnutrition and dehydration.
All patients who are having a record of intake recorded on a food chart or fluid chart will use either the Red Tray and/or Red Lid System.
The downside is that the tray is removed then their needs are no longer monitored.
Red table-top mats from NHS Magnetics are non-slip, easy to clean, infection-control compliant and are designed to remain on the patient’s bedsides as a reminder to all ward and visiting staff of their needs.
The mats are used in combination with the magnetic ‘Red Tray’ bed whiteboard symbols and work towards the 3-second visualisation rule where patient information is made readily available and visible within 3 seconds.
